Your First Session:
What to Expect
Taking the first step toward healing can feel daunting. Here is exactly what your first MEM experience looks like — so you can walk in feeling informed, not anxious.
You Don't Need to Prepare Anything
One of the most reassuring things about MEM is that it asks very little of you before you arrive. You do not need to write down your history, prepare a list of problems, or rehearse what you are going to say. You do not need to have thought carefully about what you want to work on. You simply need to show up — and be willing to see if something can shift.
There is no intake questionnaire to fill out in advance, no requirement to describe your childhood or your relationships, and no expectation that you arrive with clarity about your issues. The session itself will gently orient us toward what is most relevant for you.
The only real requirement for MEM to work is that you are genuinely willing to change. Not certain that it will work — just open to the possibility.
How a First Session Unfolds
A warm welcome and brief orientation
We begin with a relaxed conversation to help you feel comfortable. Your practitioner will briefly explain how MEM works — particularly the fact that you will not need to share personal details — so you know what to expect.
Choosing an area to work on
We identify a general area or feeling you would like to address. This could be as simple as "I feel anxious a lot" or "I feel stuck in my life." You do not need to explain why, or tell us the full story behind it.
The MEM procedure begins
Your practitioner guides you through the process using gentle verbal instruction. You follow along internally, doing simple mental exercises. There is no need to speak unless you choose to, and nothing that will feel confronting or uncomfortable.
Noticing what shifts
Most people notice changes during the session itself — sometimes subtle, sometimes quite striking. A heaviness lifts. Something that felt urgent begins to feel more manageable. A feeling that seemed permanent simply… isn't there in the same way anymore.
Closing and reflection
We close the session gently, check in on how you are feeling, and take a moment to notice what has changed. There is no homework, no journalling required, and no follow-up action you need to take. The work has already begun.
Logistics and What to Know
Session length
A first session typically runs between 60 and 90 minutes. Follow-up sessions are often shorter as we develop a working relationship and the process becomes more efficient.
In person or online
MEM sessions can be conducted in person or via video call. The method works equally well in both formats, meaning you can access support from anywhere in the world.
How many sessions?
Many people experience meaningful change in just one or two sessions. Some areas of life benefit from additional work. We never prescribe a set number — we let your progress guide us.
After your session
It is common to feel lighter, calmer, or simply different after a session. Some people notice changes continuing to unfold over the following days. There is nothing you need to do — just live your life and notice what is different.
