The Science of Causism: Understanding Feelings as the Root Cause

The word “Causism” is not accidental. It names a new body of knowledge built on a single radical claim: every emotional problem has a cause — and that cause can be identified and removed.

The Word Itself

What Causism Actually Means

Causism comes from two Anglo-Saxon roots: cause — to create an effect, to make things happen — and ism — a doctrine or system. Together they name a philosophy whose mission is: to assist people to be in control of their lives and live their dreams.

Causism is the theory. The Mace Energy Method is the practice. Causism provides the understanding of why emotional patterns form and persist, while MEM provides the structured process for dissolving them.

The Core Claim

Negative Feelings Are Self-Created — and Can Be Removed

Causism proposes that negative feelings do not simply happen to people. They are created by people themselves — not intentionally, but in automatic response to overwhelming experiences. And because they are self-created, they can also be self-dis-created, with the right guidance. This represents a significant departure from approaches that treat emotional suffering as something to be managed indefinitely. Causism says the cause can be removed entirely.

Causism is explicitly non-religious. John Mace designed it as a scientific, philosophical framework compatible with any spiritual or non-spiritual worldview. Its purpose is entirely practical: to assist people to be in control of their lives.

The Magnetic Model

How John Mace Understood Energetic Patterns

John Mace drew on his expertise in magnetic theory — studied as part of his Master Mariner qualifications — as a model for understanding how emotional patterns work. He identified three principles from magnetism particularly relevant to Causism:

  • Two similar energies repel each other; two dissimilar energies attract
  • The law of induction: a stronger energy field influences a weaker one placed within it
  • Awareness breaks the effect of induction

The practical implication: once a person’s conscious attention (positive energy) is precisely directed at a Negative Identity (negative energy), the hold is broken and the identity can be dissolved. This is exactly what a MEM session facilitates.

In Summary

A Philosophy Built for Real Change

Causism was developed over 50 years because its founder was dissatisfied with every other approach he encountered — insight without change, understanding without relief. Causism builds a framework where genuine, lasting change is not just possible — it is the expected outcome.
